Twin Success for Ballymena Chartered Accountancy Students (26th August 2011)

Twin brothers from Ballymena are celebrating success this week after receiving top marks in their Chartered Accountancy exams.
Steven and John Carson were placed first and second in Northern Ireland in their second year exams with Chartered Accountants Ireland, Ireland’s oldest and largest professional body for Chartered Accountants. The brothers were placed third and fifth overall in Ireland.
Steven is currently training with Belfast firm Harbinson Mulholland while John works for Stevenson and Wilson Chartered Accountants in his home town Ballymena. Both will continue their studies with the firms before their final exams next year.
Steven said: “We’ve both put in some hard work to get good results. We’ve had great support from our firms and our parents and we’re looking forward to completing our exams next year.”
John added: “It’s a bit of a surprise to finish first and second in Northern Ireland but our mum and dad are absolutely thrilled and making them proud is a great feeling.”
Michael Black, Chairman of the Chartered Accountants Ulster Society, a district society of the Chartered Accountants Ireland, said: “This is a wonderful result for John and Steven, they should be very proud of their achievement. Chartered Accountancy is a fantastic career and the education and experience that our trainees receive provides a great start into the world of business.
“In the next few years our young Chartered Accountants will be calling on those skills learnt during their training to help our local economy to take advantage of global recovery and make sure Northern Ireland can compete on a worldwide stage.”
Harbinson Mulholland Partner, Paul Mulholland commented: “Steven’s success is the result of hard work and absolute dedication and reinforces our belief of working with the best people and contributing to their success.”
