(1st Sept 2009) New Title for Chartered Accountants body in Ulster

The Ulster Society of Chartered Accountants is to change its title to Chartered Accountants Ulster Society from today, September 1st.

The name change comes about as a result of a corresponding change in the title of the overall representative body on the island, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland which changes to Chartered Accountants Ireland today.

The change in title represents a wider consolidation of the Chartered brand, with all 9 Chartered Accountants district societies in Ireland and overseas undergoing a similar name change. The purpose of the change is to more closely align all district societies and place the emphasis on the word ‘Chartered’ and the high regard with which it is associated.

In terms of language, the correct new title in full is Chartered Accountants Ulster Society, and approved abbreviations include ‘the Ulster Society’ and ‘Chartered Accountants Ulster’.  This move is also sees the adoption of a new brand identity for the Ulster Society, based closely on the Chartered Accountants Ireland logo and coincides with the opening of a new dedicated training and administrative headquarters for Chartered Accountants Ireland in Dublin in September.

The change will be accompanied by name changes to the other Chartered Accountants Ireland district societies, e.g. the Leinster Society of Chartered Accountants will become Chartered Accountants Leinster Society.  The district societies will also adopt new, consolidated logos.

Chartered Accountants Ulster Society was established in 1906 and now counts over 3000 Chartered Accountants as members.

Commenting on the move, Ulster Society Chairman Kevin Kingston said:
“The purpose of this change is a simple one.  We want to bring our key brand attribute, chartered accountants, to the forefront of everything we do.  The new logo for the Ulster Society takes a modern and fresh approach but builds on the historic strength of the island’s oldest and largest professional accountancy body.”
